Shimekiri ni okureyō mono nara, daimondai ni naru. — Were you to miss the deadline, it would become a huge problem.
How it works
It exaggerates a small action into a trigger for a disastrous result — “if you even dared to….” The tone is dramatic and often a warning.
Note the volitional form (言おう, 遅れよう) before ものなら; this is what separates it from the potential 〜られるものなら (if you could ~).
Compared with similar expressions
〜(よ)うものなら — “if you dared ~,” exaggerated dire consequence
〜たら / 〜ば — neutral conditional, no drama
〜(ら)れるものなら — “if you could ~ (but you probably can't)”
Common mistakes
Use the volitional form: 言おうものなら (not 言うものなら).
Don't confuse with the potential 〜られるものなら (“if only you could ~”).
