〜ものの (mono no)

JLPT N2 I did ~, but … — a fact conceded, then reversed.
Meaning
“Although ~ / ~, but ….” Admits something true, then adds an unexpected contrast.
Formation

な-adj + な / である + ものの;Noun + である + ものの
Examples

How it works
The speaker accepts the first clause as true, then admits the reality falls short of it. It's more formal and written than けど or が.
Often the second clause expresses that a hoped-for consequence did not follow.
Compared with similar expressions
〜ものの — “although,” written, concedes a fact then reverses it
〜のに — “even though,” spoken, often with disappointment
〜けど — “but,” casual, all-purpose contrast
Common mistakes
It's for real, admitted facts — not hypotheticals.
More formal than けど; avoid it in very casual speech.
Related grammar
〜のに — even though
〜とはいえ — even so, that said
〜が / けど — but
